Dawn of a new age – well, New Year anyway

A Time for Reflection

While December and January of each year seems to be the peak time for goal setting (despise the term resolutions), goals are best revisited more often than at the dawn of a New Year. We all find ourselves thinking, ‘wow, this year has gone fast’, and everything you had aspired to accomplish throughout the year never came to fruition.

Goals, not resolutions

Set yourself goals, not resolutions! Goals have the why, how and when. Resolutions are more like wishes without a plan.

Have a think about where you want to be this time next year, or in 2 years, 5 years.

What does this look like? Write this down!

Then look at what resources you have right now to make this happen. Will your current resources get you there? Do you need other resources?

Goal, Resource, Strategy…Repeat

After you determine where you want to be (your goal), you have noted your resources that you have or need to have (further education, more money coming in, etc.), next you need to work out your strategy.

Strategy is the action phase that enables you to achieve your goal. With where you want to go, and with what you have now, how can you go from here to your goal?

Smart Goals

The best goals are S.M.A.R.T. goals!

Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timeframe

We have spoken about this before here

There is little chance of accomplishing your goal if these 5 points are not considered. This determines the what, when and likelihood of reaching that goal.

In a Nutshell….

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results!

Be determined to make the next 12 months your ‘Sane’ year, where you make a conscientious effort to achieve your goal.

While the New Year is a great time to reflect on where you’ve been and where you want to go, do not just set yourself a goal to make this happen, PLAN a SMART goal.

Write your goal down! Write your resources down! Write your strategy down!

By writing your goal down, you become accountable – email your goal to me, reception@wallbs.com.au and I will check in on you throughout the year to see how you are progressing.

Do something each day that moves you one step closer to that goal!
